       The Neurodegenerative Disease Team at the Taipei Neuroscience Institute focuses primarily on the diagnosis, treatment, and research of neurodegenerative diseases. In the field of neurodegenerative diseases, sometimes the etiology is associated with genetics, so this team also utilizes gene-related techniques.

       Neurodegenerative diseases are becoming increasingly common in aging societies. Diseases such as dementia or Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and cerebellar atrophy are examples of neurodegenerative diseases. The exact causes of neurodegenerative diseases are not easy to determine, but many studies suggest that acquired factors such as daily exposure to air, water, diet, and lifestyle can lead to premature degeneration of nerve cells. When nerve cells degenerate and die to a certain extent, clinical symptoms may appear.

       Additionally, this team utilizes more novel diagnostic techniques. Common brain examinations and molecular imaging examinations contribute to the early diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases in the medical field. Regarding treatment, different treatments and the selection of neuroprotective drugs can be applied to different neurodegenerative diseases, with the hope of effectively delaying the progression of neurological diseases in the future.

       For the Neurodegenerative Disease Team, in terms of diagnosis, genetic testing technology has reached a mature stage, allowing for the identification of pathogenic genes as early as possible. Furthermore, imaging examinations enable healthcare professionals to detect clues related to neurodegenerative diseases before or at the onset of the disease.
